My Build: Suspension, Cage and More

I have started my build. After gathering parts and pickin OkieZuk's and SoonerZuk's brain, I finally started.

Here are some parts I gathered.

Along with some Rock Joints and Curry Joints from Scott @ Rock4XFab

While the parts showed up I decided to make a plan. There are not to scale and the measurements are not accurate but I had fun drawing them on Paint.

I spent a lot of time reading and studying the suspension and learned what all the numbers mean in those calculators. You can start with a general ideal of what you want but until you get out and start building something, that is when the real numbers come out.

Here is what I ended up with and beleive me, those numbers changed many times.

My set is a 3 link and the calculator is for a 4 link but it will get you in the neighborhood.

On to the actual fabrication.

Here is the upper axle mount.

Here is one of the upper Y-link.

Making the lower links:

Here are some with it together but without the springs.

Oh, and I got bored today so I did this. I dont think I will be bored for a while now.

One more pic of the final rear 3 link...Check the bling dif cover.

I will build a new cage since I sold my old one. Yes, i plan on re tubing those brake lines, that is just the old break line I had on the old housing. This is a different housing, my old one was bent. You can see in some of the upper pics I took great care in to not bending this one while welding on it.

I plan on doing a slight dove tail in the rear with tube. More to come as I get more done.

Chris
If you are refering to the measurements in that drawing of the wishbone upper link, they are not right. I just threw some measurements in there before I built it. The 2'-8" should be 29". and the total width is 23"

Thanks for the compliments guys. I could not do this without the jump start of some key players. OkieZuk sells this as a Kit if anyone is interested in buying a complete rear 3-link.

That is exactly what I would like to do to mine when I get tired of the leaf springs. I think down the road when I have to get toyota axles. Work looks great, keep posting pictures when they become available. David

What did you use for the fame mounts on the lower links? I really like the wishbone design and that thing looks like it will flex great. How much did the joints cost and did you tap the links or weld threads onto the end? What is the links made from? Where did you get the coils and coil holder plates? Can I get a closeup of the coil holding plate? Thanks and great build/writeup.

The lower link mounts are from Ballistic fab. It is the very first pic of this thread.
The joints come from Scott @ Rock4xfab.com
The lower link matterial is 1.5 .250 wall DOM and are welded to rock joints.

The upper wishbone on the axle end is a curry jount with 1 1/4 bolt fine thread forged on the Curry jount. I got the weld in bung with it. from Rock4Xfab.com The other end of the wishbone are greasable bushings I got from a buddy that had them left over from a build. He also had the spring mounts. They are made by Bluetorchfab.com.

Thanks for the compliments. I think I will enjoy this build.
