Colorado Zuki Run 10/30/10

Great ride today, great meeting some new folks and great to hook up with the crew.

8 Zuks and 1 Jeep. 3 Tin tops, 1 of em a completely stock rig which did very well.

Missing from the airing down pic is Hideous 4x4 who met up with us on the trail.

Weather was perfect.

We started off on the Ironclads, took Bunce School Road to the Jet Plane crash site then came on out to Camp Prick. At that point about half the group decided to keep on wheeling and they headed up Middle St. Vrain planning to finish it out on Cooney Flats.

Some of us bailed half way through, the others are probably finishing up now.

I'll upload individual pics later but for now here is my Photobucket Link.

Stocker (biglady112) Doing a wheelie!

Greenramp and Son, is that another wheelie?

Billsbar and his lovely wife, a little wheelie?

We didn't have any trouble keeping tabs on Flashboiler (Andy)

Just rolled in. Stopped by the Fat Tire store. It was a long day without a single brew.
The stocker did amazingly well with the tires he had. MSV and Coney were completely covered in snow! Steve drove the hell out of thing. All the trails were much rougher than last year.

Got to have a beer and then eat and get horizontal.
Thx to all that showed and the Springs guys missed a really good ride with lots of technical which was unexpected.

Been home about 30 minutes. Starting to get a little sore. Got tossed around pretty good today. It was worth it though. Time of my life.

Ihad to be tugged ot twice today, but not bad considering some of the stuff the truck had to go through. Certainly found the limits or at least the boundaries of a stock samurai. AWESOME. Look forward to next time.

After yesterday and looking at these pictures, I don't think I have to do much. I can get away with lockers and some under body armor. The stock truck is king and dominated.

But serously, I can see the potential and am excited to see where this adventure is going to take me. Thanks again for everyone who came. Totally made my weekend.

If I started over gears and lockers would be first on the list! I had so much fun with mine when it was stock!

Looks like I missed out. But that's what happens when your gone for a week and come home to find the wind destroyed the fence.
Aw, the joy of owning a home.
Thanks for the pics, glad to see you all had a good day out wheeling.

Andy and I are excited about the snow season coming. I need to get another DD so I can wheel several times a week.

Billsbar flexin a bit.

Didn't take much to make the stocker lift a tire.

I know Gecko has done this little thing once or twice.

Hideous 4x4 wasn't sure if he would be able to make it or not cause he was going to try to help find an elk, not only did he hook up with us right before we headed up to the Jet plane crash, but he did help find, drag out, skin and hang a cow elk, that morning before meeting up with us Sheesh, way to go Bill!

Great way to spend a day with your son eh.

Our main goal for the day, aside from just getting out and wheeling, was to get to the T-33A Jet Plane crash site.

From the Trail Damage web site:

"Two people were killed in the crash that happened on July 27th, 1965. It was a T-33A jet trainer, and the pilot was a very experienced Air Force Major named Jay Currie. First Lieutenant Donald Darby was riding along as a technical observer. They were flying from Buckley Field to California, and Major Currie was viewing some property he owned in Colorado, flying at 13,000 feet.

The reason for the crash is not known. He was told to go to 17,000 feet by Air Traffic Control, but then contact was lost. It is known that he was flying slowly, there were no technical issues with the plane, and neither of the pilots attempted to eject from the plane. There were thunderstorms reported in the area, which may have contributed to the crash.

As with all historical plane crash sites, you must leave everything as you found it. Do not move or remove anything. Be respectful -- people died here."

This is what it used to look like:

My tires squish pretty good with 8lbs in em. Didn't really need em that low, but it sure smooths out the rocks.

Nick had mentioned earlier that a run was going down, but I couldn't find
any info on it. I spent the weekend in Erie with the grandkids and would
have made it, had I known to bring the Zuk and where to meet. Next time hopefully!

Looks like a good time. I always really enjoy wheeling with other Zuks
and not having to show the new kids in the club what Zuks are capable
of.

Joe I really wanted to go, I did get some work done on mine though but it has been one thing after another this week. So it really wasn't possible but as soon as I get mine done (hopefully in the next week or so) I'll need to get out and "test" it out so I will be out and I'll post up when it's gonna happen!

CspgsZuk, don't worry most our runs are completely inprompt to! LOL!! This one (other than the China Wall run) is the most organized we have ever been. We even have a Colorado group set up on here but no one really uses it. But I will be sure to send out PM's to everyone once I know when I'm going so anyone that wants to tag along can....

Nick

I had a great time as well. Nice to meet new faces.

The stock zuk was awesome to watch, well driven by biglady that's for sure.

I just snapped a few pics:
