I have 4 of the older style contenders. Love to shoot them. I have 2 rifle versions and 2 pistol versions. Took several deer with the pistol of the last several years.

I had both of the barrels you want. Sold them last summer. I think. I like the 22 hornet better. Not as loud and performs very well.

I've had the pleasure of shooting both caliber barrels on my list and liked the 223 more... This was only due to the satisfying 6ft flame that was accompanying the penetrator rounds

I hunt with a 6.8 SPC ss 14". I also have a 375 JDJ that I really like but have not shot anything with it yet. Rifles barrels I have a 17 Remington, 223, 17 hrm, and a 6.8 SPC.

I just got a 257 Weatherby Mag for my encore. It is sweet. 27" Ss fluted custom shop barrel. I ordered it last November and just got it last Friday.

Just picked up a super 14 223 barrel for $250 as a bonus it came with a Bushnell scop
Was about 1/2 "off @ 25yds which was easily fixed. Then i moved to 100yds first shot @ a clay pidgeon and i saw nothing second shot @ same bird and nothing third was the same.
I walked down range to see wtf is up and to my surprise i see ahole in the center of the clay with a crater behind said clay. So apparently i have found a winner

Nice. If that is your contender, it's not a G2. I have 3 of those same frames. A G2 looks like an Encore, just a little smaller. Try to get you a set of Pachmayr grips and forend. I like them a lot, especially in the larger cals.

Here is another option to make the most accurate Contender and Encore barrels possible.
http://eagleviewarms.com/?wpsc-produ...contender-stub

The process is called stubbing, where the lug and threaded body is a one piece machined part and then a piece of threaded barrel is then threaded into the body. This removes the damage done to the barrel when the lug is welded on using the conventional method. Without the heat damage from the welding the reamer will cut a straight chamber without pushing away from the heat tempered steel.

The only reason i thought g2 was because of the firing pin selector but either way i like it

I think those are better than the G2. You can adjust the trigger on the older ones but the G2 has to be reworked. The only advantage to a G2 is you can get a black powder barrel for it and you don't have to open it again if you just let the hammer back down without shooting.

30/30 in a breaked Super 14 here. Unreal accurate and fun to shoot.

I had an 8" custom shop 44 Mag, talk about a knuckle buster with full house loads!
