AR advice?

I'm looking into building an AR15. Figure I'll go with the standard 5.56 and if I feel the need in the future I'll do an upper in .300BLK or some such.

I've already decided on Rock River forged upper/lower. What do you all recommend for barrel/sights/etc? I'm budgeting about $1200 but there's some leeway.

Just curious to know what everyone else is running.

right now, you may find pickings getting slim and you take what you find on the shelf. Gun run going on these days.

Unless you are willing to spend top dollar for excessively overpriced top end or exotic components, you will not be able to find a AR available these days, and most assuredly not within your price range. It is only going to get worse with the commies pushing their gun grabbing agenda after the latest mentally incompetant caused killings.

Not a fan of RRA components.

You cant go wrong with a mini14 either, it is a great choice. I had dropped by the local gun shop last thursday to get some powder and they had a half dozen AR's of various makes, and this morning when I stopped by to pickup my primer order, they had none left.

I'm not terribly worried about availability, and I can source an upper/lower (stripped) for under $300. I'm just curious to know what everybody is running for barrels/etc. Spenser nailed it on the head- I'm not at all worried about availability... Just what would be recommended.

Don't need a mile-long rifle. Accurate to 300 yards is more than I need- there are only two places within 30 miles of home where shots longer than that are even possible. Don't need or want top-dollar optics. I can get a $50 3-power wide FOV scope from Walmart in Gallup. They sell them with their Sig Sauer AR15s, which they also keep in constant stock... For $900. However, I don't want a composite rifle.

Availability isn't a problem in my area.

Are you gonna hunt or plink mostly?

For under 300 yards hunting of medium sized game a 300BLK shooting the Barnes TAC tipped rounds is fairly impressive. If a 30-30 would be an adequate round to take the game you are after, then the 300 will also work. Cost wise, a very nice light and accurate barrel can be had for 190$ from AR Stoner and use all stock AR15 parts. If you are gonna take shots on the longer side of your anticipated range I would look at something in the 6.8SPC, costly though.

The Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5 32mm wide angle is a decent scope for 69$ and some people can use it with both eyes open at the lower magnification.

Though the optics is something I dont like to skimp on a whole lot, I gravitate to something medium priced like the Leupold 1-4 hog scope.

I had 2 chambers that were not reamed fully/completely. You couldnt even load a cartridge in the one without damaging it. Looked like the reamer skipped and caught a flake of steel and gouged the chamber walls leaving a spike of steel. It took me a whole 15 minutes to correct but should have been caught by RRA.

I am gathering parts for a build myself. Just picked up a couple stripped lowers yesterday. I'm thinking about the 6.5 Grendel or a 6.8 SPC and a .223 just for fun.

This sort of post is 100% what I'm looking for. I did some more research into the little scope on the Sig- it's a red/green fiber optic 3x, not terribly expensive but not particularly low-quality from my quick check.

Not looking to do anything larger than the small deer we have around here- I've got a very special round for the Mossberg that will work for elk at up to 50 yards or so. This will mostly be a plinking rifle, though. I have my little .45 carbine for home defense duties... It will, however, need to stand up to potential end-of-the-world duties, hence the reason I'm going for heavier forged stuff.
