North Texas Wheeling spots

Here's a list of all the spots I could find that were a reasonable distance from North Texas. Like for a 2-3 day weekend. If you know of any others please add them here or if you have any info on these please let me know. If the list seems valuable perhaps the mods could make it sticky. I know people are always asking about places to wheel around here.

Yeah www.rnyc4x4.com you can find info on both. I think the Coopermines has a myspace also but I have never seen it.

Monkey Creek is a twice a year event, Spring and Fall.

Coopermines runs once a month $15 for driver and passenger for all weekend. RV hookups, they are building a bath house. Mud bogs, tractor pulls, TRUCKS GONE WILD, rockcrawling, atv's, open wheeling all weekend.

Mapquest says about 4 hours from Dallas on both. I will try and get you a better link for the Coopermines.

I stumbled onto a new off road site. No personal knowledge yet, but should make a run to see the place soon.

There's a spot where we all used to race fourwheelers that a lot of people still go to.(I don't anymore because i'm in the military and stationed in san diego now)

If you take HWY 37 out of clarksville TX into oklahoma there's a turnoff to the right as soon as you get off of the bridge that goes over the red river. It's nothing hard core, but there is a nice sand bar to ride around on, you can play in the river and backwaters, and there are some sandy trails to cruise around through. It changes every year when the river gets up, but it's a good place to camp out and throw a bonfire. There's a gas station with a car wash and food about a 1/4 mile up the road from the turnoff on the left hand side. If you go on sunday you can usually see some really fast quads out there. When I get back to the states in a month I'll post up some wheeling pics from back in the day. God knows that place was the death of a couple of EFI fuel pumps on my sami .

OOOH, I just saw that on October 16th they're having their annual RED RIVER RAMPAGE event out there, so If you want to drink some beers, bonfire it up, and watch some racing there should be a pretty good crowd.

For a few pictures and whatnot you can check out the facebook page that a few of us have dedicated to our little hidey hole on the red river .

Hey don't forget us up here in the central panhandle. There's the Canadian River OHV about 20 miles north of us here in Amarillo off of U.S. Highway 287/Dumas Highway. Good place and the terrain has a little of everything.

Yeah at least this year. Just remember when ya'll get here, that if ya don't like the weather just wait a couple minutes it'll change. Last year we were so dry you literally had to hunt for mud. This year you can't drive 2 feet without running into some. Gotta love the Texas panhandle.
